Relentless hitting and great pitching produced a 10-2 romp for the Milwaukee Brewers over the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday night at American Family Field. The Brewers piled up 16 hits with rookie centerfielder Joey Wiemer leading the attack. After delivering the walk off RBI single in the series opener Tuesday night, Wiemer had the biggest game of his rookie season by going four for four with two home runs, driving in 5 of the 10 Milwaukee runs. It was the first multi-homer game of his career. He added a double and a single to generate 11 total bases, a Brewer rookie record. Everyone in the lineup except Rowdy Tellez had at least one hit for the offense. On the mound, Corbin Burnes was at his very best. He sailed through eight innings, allowing no runs on just two hits, both singles, one an infield roller up the third base line. Burnes struck out a season high nine batters and didn’t issue a walk, reaching a three ball count only once in the game. Baltimore averted the shutout by scoring twice off Brewer reliever Bennett Sousa on three hits and a walk. The Brewers clinched the series win and improved to 34-28 on the season, stretching their NL Central lead to a game and a half over Pittsburgh as the Pirates were beaten again by the lowly Oakland A’s who will be coming to Milwaukee this weekend. The A’s put up 7 runs in the first inning to roll the Pirates 9-5. The Brewers will go for a sweep of the Orioles with Colin Rea on the mound against Kyle Bradish.
