The field is set for next week’s WIAA Boys State Baseball Tournament.
The Denmark Vikings captured the Division 2 sectional title Tuesday by nipping Notre Dame Academy 5-4 in the semifinals and then shutting out Chilton 2-0 in the sectional championship. Denmark is headed back to Appleton to try and make it three straight state titles. They’ll be joined by Altoona, Jefferson and Saint Thomas More.
Hortonville captured the Division 1 sectional title with a 10-0, five inning victory over De Pere. The Polar Bears dominated Appleton North 10-2 in the semifinals while the Redbirds upset top seeded Kimberly 5-3 before falling one step shy of a state berth. Hortonville along with Burlington, Franklin, Hartford, Menomonee Falls, Stevens Point and Whitefish Bay will compete for the D1 championship.
In Division 3, two schools are headed to state for the first time. Kiel got by conference rival New Holstein 4-3 in the semifinals and blanked Amherst 2-0 in the sectional final. Random Lake beat Lomira 2-1 and Deerfield 7-0 to also punch a ticket to state for the first time in program history. Aquinas and St. Croix Falls also advanced in D3.
The Division 4 semifinals will feature Edgar, Ithaca, McDonell Catholic and Pecatonica.
The state baseball tournament runs June 12-15 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton.
