STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – It’s official, tourism season in Door County is here.
“I think Door County totally had a great weekend,” said Buster Crook, Co-Owner of Kitty O’Reilly’s Irish Pub.
Sturgeon Bay was filled with people out enjoying the weather on Memorial Day.
“Probably one of the nicest Memorial Day weekends we’ve had weather-wise in recent memory. And So I think that helped people be in just a joyous mood, there was lots to do,” said Jon Jarosh, the Chief Communications Officer for Destination Door County.
With summer on the way, Destination Door County recommends people planning to stay overnight make reservations now.
Businesses are getting ready for tourism season in Door County. Memorial Day weekend kicked things off with the unofficial start to summer.
Kitty O’Reilly’s Irish Pub had live music at its new hidden gem, Kitty’s Hideaway.
“It was an awesome weekend! We had no expectation that that crowd back there would be so big and we had an awesome crowd today too. The weather played to our favor… outside we have garage doors, we have a big screen T-V, so it was kind of a nice environment with great weather pattern up here,” said Amy Crook, Co-Owner of Kitty O’Reilly’s Irish Pub.
Spencer Gustafson says he’s thankful to be a Sturgeon Bay resident, he added, “this weather’s been phenomenal. It’s not too hot, it’s not too cold. I’ve seen a lot of boats on the water. Seen a lot of boats pulling in here and enjoying this facility.”
Carl Waterstreet, another Sturgeon Bay resident, and his family took their new boat for a spin. He shared, “yesterday we went swimming for a little bit. The water wasn’t the best but it was fun to be out at the beach and then today we just went on a pleasure cruise, just went up and down the peninsula.”
They plan to conclude their weekend with a campfire.
Tourism in Door County typically lasts into October.
