The injury plagued Milwaukee Brewer pitching staff may be getting another veteran arm. Reports say 32 year old Julio Teheran will sign a contract with the Brewers after passing a physical. Teheran made his big league debut with the Atlanta Braves in 2011 and between 2013 and 2017, went 56-42, getting named to the National League All Star team twice, in both 2014 and 2016. He was released after the 2019 season and his career path took some detours. He had a brief sting with the Los Angeles Angels in 2020 and last pitched a big league game in 2021 with the Detroit Tigers. Teheran headed to the Mexican League for a summer before getting signed to a minor league deal by the San Diego Padres where in 8 starts for San Diego’s AAA club in El Paso, he is 4-2 with a 5.63 ERA. Aaron Ashby, recovering from shoulder surgery, is likely to miss the entire season. Brandon Woodruff may be on the shelf until July at the earliest, Eric Lauer and Wade Miley both went on the injured list in the last week. Teheran will hopefully be able to give manager Craig Counsell some innings until the wounded arms are healed. Milwaukee’s pitching is on a bit of a roll this week regardless, with starters Colin Rea and Adrian Houser along with the bullpen, putting up consecutive shutouts of the Houston Astros heading into the Brewers weekend series against the San Francisco Giants beginning Thursday night.
