OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Order up!
A student-run pop-up restaurant at Oshkosh West High School aimed to give young adults a taste of real-world responsibilities.
The Senior Transitions class worked for two months to launch their pop-up Italian restaurant, “Okie Gnocchi.”
The students learned how to apply and interview for their roles, master Italian cooking, refine customer service abilities and bring the restaurant atmosphere to life.
Oshkosh West High School Special Education Teacher, Mary Gabriel, says this is the first time the class did this project.
“There’s been a lot of kinks we’ve worked out along the way but I think all of the foundational stuff is there now. Like we learned how to build a website, we learned how to write a bio for our ourselves, we learned how to get all the pieces together to decorate the tables, all the parts that come with it. And all my seniors want to come back and be diners next year.”
Over the next few days, students will showcase their skills by serving Oshkosh West school staff.
