L-R Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach, Local Letter Carrier Jack Mannion, and Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich hold Stamp Out Hunger proclamation. May 12, 2023.
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The National Association of Letter Carriers will be collecting non-perishable food items on Saturday through the USPS Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
If you have a box or can of non-perishable food, set it out next to your mailbox before 9 a.m. for the carriers to collect. Jack Mannion is a USPS letter carrier in Green Bay; he say’s he enjoys a friendly competition between the east and west sides of Green Bay.
“In years previously, the east side has pulled 75-80 thousand pounds, where the west side might pull 85 thousand points, so we compete with one another,” said Mannion.
Mannion noted the importance of making sure the food you donate is not expired, and is also non-perishable. Additionally, baby food must be fully enclosed in a case, unopened, and not individual jars.
After the collection, the food is sorted and evenly distributed to local food pantries.
The drive has delivered more than 1.82 billion pounds of food nationally in the past 30 years.
