(WTAQ-WLUK) — A Freedom high school student’s artwork will soon be hanging on the walls of the U.S. Capitol Building.
Emma Olson’s piece, “Concession,” will be displayed in the Canon Tunnel of the Capitol complex, after she won the 2023 Congressional Art Competition in Northeast Wisconsin.
The annual competition allows high school students to share their talents across congressional districts.
U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-8th District, will have the chance to enjoy several pieces of art from his district.
Emma Bastian’s piece, “Comfort,” will be displayed in Gallagher’s office in Washington D.C. The Brillion High School student took second in the competition.
Bay Port High School’s Julia Fitt will also have artwork featured in one of Gallagher’s offices. Fitt’s third place entry, “Determination,” will be displayed in Gallagher’s De Pere office.
These pieces of art will be featured at the Trout Museum of Art in Appleton through May 14 before making their journeys.
This year, 39 pieces of art were submitted from 10 different high schools.
