(WTAQ-WLUK) — Warmer weather has ushered in the second wave of sturgeon spawning this season.
Wildlife officials say sturgeon spawning activity can now be seen in multiple locations in Northeast Wisconsin.
On Monday, the DNR said:
- Sturgeon have gathered below the De Pere Dam on the lower Fox River and have begun spawning
- Sturgeon continue to spawn on the Peshtigo River and can be seen from the Peshtigo River Viewing Platform
- Sturgeon are intermittently visible along the shorelines at New London, Bamboo Bend and at the Shawano Dam
Officials say this second round of spawning will likely be the last of the season so people should view them now while they can.
Sturgeon from the Winnebago System spawned for a few days last month when the weather was warm, but the cold snap that followed shut down the activity.

During spawning season, lake sturgeon are very vulnerable and can be susceptible to illegal harvest. Make sure to report any suspicious activity to 1-800-TIP-WDNR.
