GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Now that the 2023 draft is over, the Green Bay Packers can focus on the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Green Bay waits to hear if it will be selected as a draft city for the event in 2025 or 2027.
A team from Green Bay attended the draft in Kansas City, to scout things, and see how the draft was run. They learned the ins and out and are hopeful to be a future host.
Fresh off his trip, with others from Discover Green Bay to scout the NFL draft, Vice President of Visitor Experience, Cameron Teske, is even more convinced that Green Bay and the surrounding areas would be a good fit to host the big event. According Teske, “There’s a lot of just hope and energy and excitement around this whole event. So, even if you don’t follow college football, there’s so much to do around watching the whole production of it all.”
For a city that hosts the draft, the event is about so much more than just the football picks. “Local music is being played there, local restaurants, local food, the Play 360, getting the kids out there and just active, being a part of this whole huge experience that the draft has become,” says Teske about the draft experience.
It’s ultimately up to the NFL, once it selects a city, to determine the layout of the draft site. But, as Green Bay’s proposal to host the draft shows, the city has many different options and venues for all of the different events.
Teske says, “Obviously anything that can come to the Green Bay community, people want to see Lambeau Field so that would definitely be the center of a lot that happens in this community and then getting them to explore the rest of the community.”
From Titletown to the stadium district to the downtown and even waterfront, Green Bay officials say after visiting Kansas City for this year’s draft, Green Bay has plenty of space and opportunity to offer to host a successful event, in any kind of conditions.
Teske says, “You’ve just got to roll with the punches and make the best of all opportunities and that’s what we love to do and showcase our community in the snow, the sun, in the rain – it’s always a fantastic experience here.”
And one Green Bay would embrace if it’s selected to host an NFL draft.
