GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new facility to help people with dementia had its groundbreaking ceremony today.
Curative Connections in Green Bay is beginning construction on Yesteryear Village at the organization’s Cloud Family Center on Western Avenue.
The village is part of an innovative approach to dementia care which utilizes the power of reminiscence. Curative Connections says they hope the program can be used as a model for dementia care in the state of Wisconsin and beyond.
State and local legislators and dignitaries, along with Curative Connections’ Campaign Cabinet members, board members, donors, project partners, and community partners were in attendance to celebrate the groundbreaking. Staff members say they are glad to finally get the project started after Covid-related delays, and are grateful for the community’s support and donations.
“We have been so blessed with the amount of support from our community, an awesome Capital Campaign Cabinet filled with members in our community that have known donors and reached out to people that want to give towards this purpose and this innovative opportunity for our community,” says Director of Adult Day Services Allyson Crass.
Staff say they hope construction is finished by the end of the year, and plan for operations to begin by February of next year.
