APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Tyler Peschke was sentenced Friday to two years in prison after stealing a skid-steer and leading police on a chase.
Peschke, 38, previously pleaded no contest to charges of drunken driving, fourth offense, and eluding an officer. He was also placed on extended supervision for three years, and had his driver’s license revoked for three years by Judge Mark Schroeder.
Before the sentence was issued, Peschke said he accepted responsibilities for his actions. Peschke addressed the court by video from Redgranite Correctional Institution, where he is serving a sentence from previous offenses, mostly drug-related.
Judge Schroeder called Peschke’s actions those of someone defiantly giving society the middle finger.
“This isn’t the sort of fleeing and eluding where you’ve got somebody driving down a road at speeds that often times exceed the speed limits with extinguished lights or other things in an attempt to evade. This is, forgive me for saying so, this is a jack-(expletive) on a skid-steer under the influence, refusing to comply with orders, knowing while he’s doing so that he has zero chance — and probably not much intent — of actually escaping. This is a person who has decided they are going to flame out on supervision in spectacular fashion,” the judge said.
But the judge also noted the need to get Peschke into the appropriate treatment programs, and structured the sentence to make those available to him.
Grand Chute police were made aware of a stolen skid-steer headed toward the town on Feb. 24, 2022. It traveled on multiple streets and entered Appleton before police were able to safely approach it. Peschke was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.
