K-9 deputy Rip PC: Fox 11 Online
CAMPBELLSPORT, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An armed man in a Fond du Lac County domestic incident was taken into custody with the help of K9 deputy Rip.
Just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, dispatch received a 911 call from a village of Campbellsport resident reporting that a man they know was pounding on the locked front door and refusing to leave.
The caller also said the suspect is typically armed with a handgun and that he was verbally threatening to shoot and kill people.
When deputies arrived, they located the man outside the residence. The suspect refused to show deputies his hands and was yelling at them to shoot him, officials say. Deputies on scene could also see a holstered handgun attached to the front of his clothing.
A perimeter was set up to contain the suspect to the front yard and negotiations for a peaceful surrender were initiated. Residents in the vicinity were evacuated or sheltered in place and the SWAT and Crisis Negotiator teams were activated.
Just before midnight, the SWAT team deployed less lethal beanbag rounds which struck the suspect. As the suspect ran, he pulled the handgun from his chest holster. K9 deputy Rip, who was part of the perimeter arrest team, was immediately deployed and apprehended the suspect with a bite. The suspect then dropped the firearm from his hand. He was taken into custody by deputies and turned over to EMS personnel on scene for treatment of bite wounds and ultimately transported to St. Agnes Hospital for further treatment.
Multiple criminal charges related to the incident are expected, the sheriff’s office says.
