MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A party bus full of passengers from an Oconto business was hit by gunfire around midnight Saturday while driving in the 700 block of N. 5th Street in Milwaukee.
The bus had just left American Family Field following the Morgan Wallen concert.
Everyone on the bus is okay but shaken.
“We were leaving the Morgan Wallen concert traveling down Wisconsin Avenue,” says Mitch Landvick, co-owner of Lou’s Limos. “Noticed probably about half a mile down, noticed a bunch of people running, was really curious. I was looking at what was going on, all the sudden I heard a gunshot and told everyone to get down.”
Landvick was driving 12 passengers Saturday night.
“As soon as I heard a gunshot, I just hit the gas,” says Landvick.
Landvick says he did not realize the bus itself had been hit by a bullet at first, but passenger Brea Borchert knew.
“I saw a bullet hole through my window and through the shoulder of my seat… just seeing that, I was numb,” says Borchert.
At first, Borchert’s friends were scared the bullet hit her.
“I remember my friends grabbing my head and my hair, and asking if I was shot and I said, ‘I don’t know, I don’t know,'” says Borchert.
She says she was in pain and bleeding from the glass shards that cut her.
Landvick says he believes it was just one shot that hit the vehicle.
He says after they got on the highway and called 911, they went to a station out of town to speak with police.
They were able to make it back up north in the same bus, but after returning, the vehicle will no longer start.
“We taped up the windows, a couple of the passengers were basically holding the window in so that the glass wouldn’t fall out,” says Landvick.
Landvick says they will not be driving in Milwaukee at night anymore.
He also says they have had to cancel on their clients for the next few weeks and have not heard back from insurance yet on repairs.
“These windows are about a thousand bucks a piece… the seats are custom,” says Landvick.
Borchert says she is thankful for the heroic actions Landvick displayed, but he says he was just doing his job.
“Just seeing people flee like that and trying to escape like we were, it’s just horrible,” says Borchert. “It’s going to traumatize me for awhile.”
“This is a business where alcohol is involved, and I look out for them,” says Landvick.
Police say a home was also hit by the gunfire, but no people reported being hit.
