A masterful pitching performance from Wade Miley and a microscopic but speedy small ball offense was enough to carry the Milwaukee Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the Padres in San Diego on Sunday earning the Crew a big 3-1 series win. Miley pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits, without a walk and 8 strikeouts, bettering a stellar outing from Yu Darvish who also allowed just four hits in 7 innings, while striking out 12. The only run came in the second thanks to the fleet footed rookie Garrett Mitchell. He reached base by beating out a bunt single up the third base line. A Darvish balk allowed him to move to second and then Mitchell cleanly stole third base allowing him to score easily on Brian Anderson’s sacrifice fly to left. The starters locked things down from there. Peter Strzlecki worked a clean 8th inning and Devin Williams earned a very adventurous save in the 9th. He walked a pair and gave up a single while striking out a pair and with the bases loaded, he got ex-Brewer Trent Grisham looking on a called third strike to end the game. The Brewers took an impressive three out of four from the Padres on the road to lift their record to 11-5 on the season but the trip isn’t over. They are off to Seattle for a three game set beginning Monday night with Corbin Burnes on the hill against Chris Flexen in the opener. Pre-game coverage begins at 8:05 PM with an 8:40 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
