GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Much of Northeast Wisconsin remains in “high” or “very high” for fire danger as another day of hot, dry weather is in store for the area.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources shows 10 counties in our area in the “very high” category. Waupaca, Waushara and Green Lake counties are among the majority of the state in the “extreme” category. Menominee and Door counties are in the “high” category, with Florence the only area county listed as “low.”
A state of emergency remains in effect in Wisconsin. The public should be especially careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a wildland fire and avoid burning.
Campfires, ashes from fireplaces, outdoor grills, smoking, chainsaws, off-road vehicles or other small engines have the potential to throw a spark, ignite a fire and spread quickly.
The DNR says it responded to nearly 100 wildfires in the past week. Those fires burned more than 3,000 acres.
The DNR and Fort McCoy continue to manage the Arcadia Fire, which had grown to 3,168 acres. As of Friday afternoon, the fire was 77% contained and evacuation orders were lifted.
