GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is mourning the loss of one of its wolves.
Over the past few months, Tundra has been dealing with some health challenges that was eventually identified as cancer.
Tundra has called the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary home for the past 10 years. He was brought to the Green Bay facility, along with his brother and sister, at just 7 weeks old.
In a Facebook post, officials wrote, in part:
Tundra immediately bonded with animal care staff, many of which have cared for him his entire life. Tundra’s boldness, curiosity, and the sweet way he came to his care team for training and treats will be deeply missed. Tundra loved to play games when out on exhibit and never missed a chance to play in the pool. Tundra took care of the pack structure with ‘friends’ Luna, Ember, Yoon, and Owila. Tundra has howled with countless patrons over the years and has touched people’s hearts, young and old. Staff has been working together with our wolf pack during this stressful and unprecedented time. We appreciate everyone’s kindness and understanding and ask you to join us in honoring his memory. While the chorus of howls we all enjoyed for years have faded some, we are honored to have been a part of Tundra’s life and all he shared with the public educating them about his species.
