DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Brown County Sheriff’s Office says there may be life-threatening injuries in a Friday afternoon crash on I-41.
The northbound lanes of I-41 are closed beyond the ramp from County F/Scheuring Road in De Pere while crews work near a jackknifed semi-truck.
Captain Jody Lemmens of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office says it started out as a reckless driving complaint that led to a car crashing into the median and then colliding with a semi-truck.
The De Pere fire department responded to the crash around 12:30 p.m. — finding lots of fire and a car trapped under the truck, according to battalion chief Tom Nelson.
The driver of the car was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The semi-truck driver had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Nelson said that a cleanup company is being brought in to clean off the highway, as about 100 gallons of diesel were spilt in the incident.
The closure is expected to last until at least 5 p.m. and Wisconsin State Patrol plans to do crash reconstruction at the scene.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and take alternate routes.
