Joseph Olvera
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Joseph Olvera was sentenced to 20 years in prison for a stabbing murder in April 2021.
Olvera, 45, was also placed on extended supervision for six years at Wednesday’s sentencing by Judge Tim Hinkfuss. Olvera also must pay restitution of $11,668.
Before the sentence was issued, Olvera apologized.
“I just want to say to everybody from the bottom of my heart, I truly, truly am sorry. I pray to him and ask him forgiveness for hurting him. And I ask his family, and my family. There’s nothing I can say that’s, like I said, not driving me crazy in mind every day thinking about it. I can’t change it, and that’s the truth, and I am sorry,” Olvera said.
Olvera was originally charged with intentional homicide, but pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of reckless homicide.
Olvera confronted the victim April 4, 2021 after a near-collision in a gas station lot, according to the criminal complaint.
A woman in the car with Olvera “did admit that from what she observed it was just an argument and nothing she saw should have resulted in one person stabbing another,” the complaint states.
*NOTE: This defendant, Joseph Olvera, is unrelated to a man with the same name who faces charges stemming from a homicide and standoff in Omro.
