GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Both Green Bay mayoral candidates have received threatening messages in the past week, according to the candidates.
On Thursday, Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich tweeted a photo of a threatening letter he received at his home.
Genrich’s campaign manager also shared the letter on the Eric Genrich for Green Bay Facebook page, saying, in part, “This is not a Green Bay value. We will not let them make us afraid of being kind to one another, or protecting each other.”
The manager said this was not the first time the mayor has received threats like this.
Genrich’s opponent, Chad Weininger, released a statement Thursday, saying he knows exactly how Genrich feels; he received a threatening text last Friday.
In his statement, Weininger includes a screenshot of the following text message:

“I do not condone violence against anyone. Including the letter that was sent to Mayor Eric Genrich,” wrote Weininger.
He goes on to say there is no place for threats of any kind in political discourse.
The Green Bay Police Department confirmed it is investigating the letter sent to Genrich. Police say its investigations division is looking into the matter and no other details will be released at this time.
