APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — The Appleton Police Department has released its 2022 annual report, which includes crime statistics and other information about the community and the department.
The report highlights major crimes and provides insight into the department’s efforts to improve community safety through various programs and initiatives. Lieutenant Meghan Cash with the Appleton Police Department said a high point of 2022 was the department’s recruitment and retention efforts.
“Right now we are fully staffed.” said Cash. “It’s amazing to have that feeling that we can go into this year and be able to do extra programs and be more involved in our community.”
In terms of local crime statistics, the numbers are mostly in line with last year and other previous years. However, crimes are slightly different now when comparing them to a few years ago during the prime of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I think we’re seeing more people getting out and doing more, so we’re seeing more of those car thefts that maybe are happening with people leaving their keys in the car.” said Cash.
