WISCONSIN (WTAQ) — Celebrations of St. Patrick’s Day are fast approaching; with local law enforcement encouraging you to stay safe.
Both the Appleton and Green Bay Police Departments will have extra officers on patrol on Friday to keep their communities safe and look for impaired driving. Since the holiday falls on a weekend this year, local officials are expecting more people to go out and celebrate, which could lead to both more OWI arrests and traffic accidents.
“It’s always very sad when we have to not only tell a family members that a person is injured or has died,” said Lieutenant Meghan Cash with the Appleton Police Department.” It can make for a very bad day for anyone who is involved in a crash when somebody chooses to drink and drive.”
In the Green Bay area, the OWI taskforce, which is made up of multiple Brown County Agencies, will be deployed Friday from 7 p.m. until Saturday at 3 a.m.
Individuals who may have had too much to drink are encouraged to call a friend, or use a rideshare service or taxi.
