NEW LONDON, WI (WTAQ) — New London becomes New Dublin once again in anticipation of St. Patrick’s Day.
On Monday the leprechauns changed the name of the town from New London to New Dublin for the week by editing their population signs. Numerous events will also take place throughout the week. Ryan Lanning with the Shamrock Club of New Dublin shared how this tradition began.
“39 years ago, some of our members decided to get together and celebrate their Irish heritage,” said Lanning. “They brought food and drinks and Irish music with them and walked up and down on Water Street.”
The big event on Saturday is the Grand Parade and Irish Fest, which brings about 20-30 thousand people to the town.
