FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An integral member of the Fond du Lac Police Department will soon be retiring, finishing a career of 30 years in service to the city.
Assistant Chief of Police Steve Klein will retire on March 31. He has served as assistant chief since 2013.
Klein’s career with the department began in 1993 as a police officer. From there, he worked his way up through the department.
The assistant chief was instrumental in the beginning of the K-9 program for the department. In 1995, Klein was the one who approached the police chief with research and a plan to implement the program. Later that same year, he became the department’s first K-9 officer.
Apart from his roles in the department, Klein has also been an adjunct professor at Marian University, a K-9 instructor and served on several community boards.
The city of Fond du Lac will present Klein with a key to the city on March 22 and recognize his service with an official proclamation.
