BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Brown County is celebrating women’s history month by recognizing 100 years of women in county leadership.
Brown County Supervisor Megan Borchardt is leading the effort to honor the 46 women who have served on the county’s Board of Supervisors.
She will be compiling a list of all 46 women and hopes to include a picture and a little information about each woman.
“It’s important for those who may be interested in serving our community to know a little bit about each of the women who have come before us, what they were like and maybe some of the struggles that they’ve gone through,” said Borchardt. “In knowing this, we are able to do better and be better.”
Anna Hanrahan was the first woman elected to the board. She was elected to represent Ward 16 in 1924 — just a few years after women gained the right to vote.
Borchardt hopes to have the complete list finished by the end of June. The community will then have access to the information at the Brown County Library in the historical section.
