CLINTONVILLE, WI. (WTAQ-WLUK) — Clintonville may soon have a new dog park, and that’s all thanks to a local Girl Scout.
Cassidy Rose, 17, founded the Friends of the Clintonville Dog Park, a non-profit that plans to establish and maintain a dog park. It’s all part of her Gold Award.
That award is the Girl Scout equivalent to the Boy Scout’s Eagle Award. It’s an 80-hour community project that will have a lasting impact.
And considering Clintonville currently doesn’t have a dog park, Rose is definitely making an impact.
“There is a big need for the dog park in Clintonville,” said Rose. “A lot of citizens have dogs and they have to travel to nearby cities to use a dog park because we do not currently have one locally.”
She says the community has been incredibly passionate and supportive of her efforts.
The community showed its support Wednesday night during a “share night” with Clintonville’s A&W. A portion of proceeds went towards Rose’s $22,000 dog park ambitions.
Rose raised over $700 within four hours Wednesday for the project. A pop-up Girl Scout cookie sale brought in $350 to support her troop.
Last summer, the Clintonville Common Council approved the plans for the dog park at Bucholtz Park. This summer, Rose hopes it will be completed.
No city money is planned for the dog park, though it is dependent on how much Rose is able to raise, according to Public Works Director Justin McAuley.
