GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The final two candidates for Superintendent of Green Bay Area Public Schools are in the home stretch of the hiring process. On Monday, finalist Jenny Risner got to introduce herself.
Risner currently serves as the Director of Special Services for the Seaside School District in Oregon. She oversees Special Education, Title IX, Homeless Student Services, and other student and district programs.
Before her position with Seaside School District, she was the superintendent of Ames Community School District in Iowa, and Superintendent of Ocean Beach School in Long Beach, Washington.
Risner received her superintendent credentials in 2013 from Washington State University, where she also received her MA in Education Administration in 2001. She is currently working towards her Doctorate Degree at Iowa State University, which will be completed in 2023.
While school districts all across the nation tackle declining enrollment, Risner shared how she would address that problem in Green Bay.
“Looking really closely at our enrollment trends, and having a solid plan as we move forward,” said Risner. “Knowing there may be hard decisions to make as we come, but going through a process that includes the community.”
One of her primary goals for the district is to address the achievement gap through curriculum and equity work.
While discussing her personal attributes, Risner said she focuses strongly on fostering relationships with students, staff, families, and the community.
On Tuesday, finalist Claude Tiller Jr. will have his chance to meet the community.
