GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A stabbing at a mosque Wednesday is not being investigated as a hate crime, Green Bay police say.
The stabbing at the Islamic Society of Wisconsin on Velp Avenue sent a 52-year-old Green Bay man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 22-year-old Green Bay man was arrested.
“(I)nvestigators currently do not have any indication of this being a religion or hate crime,” police spokesperson Jennifer Gonzalez wrote in an email. “Again, this is believed to have been an isolated incident as the two people involved were reportedly known to one another.”
Police say they are still working to compile reports to be sent to the Brown County District Attorney’s Office for potential charges.
