BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – This week’s winter storm is providing a second wind for those who enjoy outdoor winter activities.
Our unseasonable weather to start 2023 had cross country ski equipment put back in storage earlier than ever before at Play It Again Sports in Ashwaubenon.
“We were able to bring the new stuff back into the store so that we still had a choice for people, but when it’s slow, it’s slow,” said Mike Hendricks, who has owned Play It Again Sports on Ridge Road for 21 years.
Hendricks says winter enthusiasts returned this week, ready to get out and enjoy the snow.
“When we had the snow early, people were excited, but when the snow disappeared, the interest goes away a little bit,” said Hendricks. “People really like to see the snow on the ground.”
Play It Again Sports has a variety of equipment still available, including mark downs to make way for spring sporting goods.
If you aren’t interested in buying, renting is an option at the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park in Suamico.
“Between Christmas and New Year’s was the first time we had the skis and snowshoes, and we had really good success of people coming out and renting them,” said Nathaniel Wagner, Adventure Park supervisor.
This winter, the Adventure Park added cross country skis and snowshoes to its allotment of fat tire bikes to rent.
You can reserve the equipment ahead of time online, and it might be a good idea if you’re thinking about coming out this weekend. They are hoping to rent out everything they have.
“I think with the weather being so poor as its been — up until this point, we haven’t had a whole lot of snow — I think people are itching to get outside and are excited to be out and do stuff,” said Wagner.
Trails are expected to be ready for Friday.
