GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Green Bay’s first line of defense during winter weather is the public works department. With hundreds of miles of city roads to plow, drivers look at the challenge of the next couple of days as their Super Bowl.
There’s 460 miles of pavement Public Works is responsible for. Chris Pirlot is Operations Director….
“Even if we get just a little bit of snow or ice and some type of winter accumulation, we’ll always take of the arterial streets, the primary streets and bus routes.”
But Pirlot says for a storm that’s expected to dump a foot of snow, all their employees and most every piece of equipment, will be put to work.
“We can take care of it whether it’s 2 inches, 3 inches, 10 inches, 12 inches.”
But he does says it’s a little easier for his drivers to move larger amounts of snow, than the small stuff.
“If it’s going to snow, let it snow, not this little drizzly stuff. Let it snow and we’ll go plow it.”
With a storm that’s supposed to be coming in two parts, Pirlot says it will give his crews a chance to finish plowing part one, get some rest, and come back for part two.
