KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ) — A helicopter and heavy-duty air saw will be used to trim trees along 345,000-volt electric transmission lines in Brown, Calumet and Outagamie counties beginning the week of Feb. 20.
Jody Lau with American Transmission Company (ATC) says the aerial saw work will be conducted between Kaukauna and Forest Junction; and explained how these saws work.
“Aerial saws are equipped with about 9-12 rotary blades that are suspended on a 90 foot vertical boom that hangs below a helicopter.” said Lau.
The saws help trim tree branches so they don’t get too close to electrical lines.
ATC performs routine vegetation management on its over 10,000 miles of high-voltage electric lines in five-year cycles.
The work is weather-dependent, and the duration of the work could fluctuate.
If you find yourself in an area where aerial sawing is occurring, make sure you stay at least 300 feet away from the helicopter, equipment, and ground crews.
