DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Six adults and five children are safe after being rescued from ice floes that broke away from Door County’s shoreline Monday afternoon.
The U.S. Coast Guard says it received a call about 11 people being stranded on ice floes shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday. They were stranded near Sherwood Point in southern Door County.
The Coast Guard’s airboat was on the scene by 1:15 p.m., joining the Door County Sheriff’s Office, Southern Door County Fire Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. A Coast Guard helicopter was also called onto the scene to help with the rescue.
The Coast Guard says that all 11 people were safely ashore by 2 p.m. with no injuries being reported.
