FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The community is in mourning as questions remain after a deadly crash in Fond du Lac County over the weekend.
It happened just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Golf Course Drive, just east of Taft Road.
A memorial grows on the side of the street where the incident happened.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says one teen is dead and two others suffered injuries.
They say a 16-year-old male from Eldorado, who was the front seat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, another 16-year-old, was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Sheriff officials say the 16-year-old girl who was in the back seat suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Sully’s Irish Pub organized a fundraiser for the families affected, bars across Fond Du Lac will have donation buckets in them for a week.
“We’re here to show our support in any way we can and that through donations etcetera for medial expense and funeral costs,” says bar owner, Rayce Fleisner.
There are currently 10 bars participating, including Tavern on the Avenue.
“I think when something tough like this happens in the community, it’s good for all of us to come together and support each other. You never know when something like this is going to happen to you and you need that type of support from everybody else too,” says bartender at Tavern on the Avenue Emily Wathan.
Wathan says it is not unusual for Fond Du Lac County to come together in hard times.
“I’ve lived here my whole life, born and raised,” she said. “Our community seems to me that it’s very close and we all kind of do what we can to help each other out.”
Both bars say they have already received donations.
“People have messaged me that they will stop by and make a donation,” says Fleisner.
“We’ve gotten plenty of donations, we just started yesterday, yesterday evening actually and we’ve already gotten quite a bit in there,” says Wathan.
Authorities believe the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control and hit a tree. They believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The bars hope this fundraiser can bring some relief.
“Helping good people, good families in need, in a good community,” says Fleisner.
