OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — More than three years after Grant Fuhrman allegedly stabbed a police liaison officer at Oshkosh West High School, his trial appears ready to start later this month.
Fuhrman, now 20, is charged with one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide for the Dec. 3, 2019 incident. Prosecutors say Officer Mike Wissink shot Fuhrman after Fuhrman stabbed him. Students and staff evacuated, and classes were canceled for two days.
The attorneys met Wednesday with Judge Daniel Bissett, making final arrangements for the trial, which is scheduled to start Jan. 23. A three-week trial is planned.
Since the charges were filed, a variety of motions — including those about the evidence, change of venue requests, a possible insanity plea and a possible affirmative defense — have been argued.
The trial had been scheduled to start last May. But as that trial date was shortly after a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and Fuhrman’s attorney successfully argued a fair jury could not have been selected at the time. It was reset then to this month.
