MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Steven Avery’s attorney has two weeks to file response in the latest round of motions regarding his conviction for the murder of Teresa Halbach.
Avery is serving a life sentence for the freelance photographer’s murder. Avery’s nephew Brendan Dassey was also convicted. Their cases received worldwide attention with the 2015 release of the Netflix series “Making A Murderer.”
Avery’s latest post-conviction motion was filed in August, with the state replying in November.
Court records show Sheboygan County Judge Angela Sutkiewicz signed an order Tuesday granting Avery’s attorney until Jan. 26 to file a response to the state’s arguments.
No hearings have been scheduled, though Avery’s attorney has requested one.
Dassey currently has no appeals pending.
