SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Lighthouse in Shawano hosted a polar plunge on January 1st to kick off the New Year with all the funds going the family of a woman who has brain cancer.
More than 50 people came out to take the frigid plunge into Shawano Lake. It’s a tradition that dates back more than two decades.
Among those cheering them on was the family of the cancer patient being helped with funds raised during the event.
They say they’re thankful for all the support.
“No words…its very emotional to see the support that we have from our community and our local establishments its amazing,” said Peggy Block, aunt of the cancer patient being helped this year.
The polar plunge in Shawano was started 23 years ago to benefit the humane society, but its has since been used to help families dealing with cancer.
