GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay Police Lieutenant Jason Allen is asking for anyone to come forward with information relating to break-ins in the northwest area of the city.
“If they see something that doesn’t look right or looks out of place to call us at the police department so we can investigate it,” Allen said. “And not to just dismiss it thinking that we have other things to do. We’re here to make this happen.”
Allen said all tips are taken seriously, which is why he’s hoping the public can contribute. While Green Bay police are urging Mather Heights residents to be vigilant and look out for anything suspicious, they’re trying to do the same. They’re going door to door talking with homeowners and handing out these crime alert cards.
“It’s good,” Mather Heights Resident John Lee said. “It’s good to let the neighborhood know so everyone feels more safe and that we know the police are around.”
Lee appreciates the approach taken by the police. But he tells FOX 11 it’s unsettling to know there’s been crime near his home.
“Well it’s not safe. This is a older neighborhood so it’s scary to know there’s been burglaries going on.”
Allen said it’s too early to determine a connection between each incident, but it’s something investigators will always consider.
“That is one of the things that the detectives look at, trying to make correlations between each burglary.”
No one has been hurt during the break-ins, but several valuable items have been stolen.
“A lot of the things that have been taken are money, guns, electronics, that sort of stuff.”
Allen said there’s no specific cause for safety concerns, but he suggests homeowners practice strong security measures.
“You want to be a responsible homeowner and you want to keep your doors locked and keep your curtains shut and try to vary your day to day habits and keep an eye out for one another.”
The department also recommends securing valuables in a locked safe and taking photos of them for identification purposes if stolen.
