PULASKI, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Its been a week since the lives of many were changed after a bonfire explosion near Pulaski.
The Pulaski FFA is showing its support by donating proceeds from its haunted trail Saturday, to the victims affected.
The Pulaski FFA has been planning this trail for months.
Its original plan was to donate proceeds to Children’s Hospital, but when tragedy struck its community, it quickly responded.
“Everyone in our community knew these people and we want to help them as much as we can,” says Laura Sprangers, Pulaski FFA Vice President.
The five dollar admission along with concession proceeds will go to the victims.
“There was an account made at Fox Communities Credit Union right in Pulaski that automatically puts whatever donations you have into it and it automatically splits it between the victims,” says Sprangers.
Many people who came out to show their support and enjoy the trail, knew someone affected by the fire.
“Our friend’s son is in the burn center down in Milwaukee right now, he just had a skin graph surgery this past Wednesday that seemed to go really well. He’s definitely headed in the right direction, they just ask for a lot of prayers to keep it going that way,” says Pulaski resident Marisa Possley.
This situation hit especially close to home for Sarah Kohls.
“I actually teach at the middle school right here so I had a lot of those kids as students so I am happy to give back in a positive way,” says Kohls.
Kohls is also a girls golf coach at the High School.
“The minute I heard about it I was texting my girls, ‘is everyone okay, what’s going on,’ so it was just very scary,” says Kohls.
Many people at the trail Saturday say its not unusual for the Pulaski community to come together in support of others.
“You know we are close to a big city, we’re close to Green Bay, but yet we still have the feeling of that small town everyone has each others backs, which is what I love about being here,” says Kohls.
The FFA hopes to raise at least $500 to donate to the victims.
“It hits close to home because you never thought it could happen to you,” says Sprangers.
Donations were also collected at the trail for the Pulaski Food Pantry.
The Pulaski FFA plans to donate proceeds from future fundraisers this year, to Children’s Hospital.
