GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will be in Green Bay today (Sunday), campaigning for Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels.
DeSantis is a Republican whose policies have been compared to former President Donald Trump’s in terms of divisiveness. Most recently, DeSantis has been in the news for ordering the transport of 50 immigrants from San Antonio to Martha’s Vineyard.
Trump has also campaigned for businessman Michels. He visited Waukesha just days before the primary when Michels beat out former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch.
Whether these controversial national figures will help Michels in the November election against incumbent Gov. Tony Evers remains yet to be seen.
One Marquette University professor explained that it’s complicated to know if the endorsements are helping.
“It’s not a trivially easy calculation to make about whether the net effect is good or bad,” said Marquette University Law Poll Director Charles Franklin. “But within the party, I think both are helpful for building up base voter support. Both are helpful — Trump probably more so.”
DeSantis is a possible candidate to run for president in 2024, though he has said he is focused on Florida right now and not a presidency.
Trump has been outspoken about his plan to run in 2024.
The Desantis-Michels rall is set for 6 p.m. and the Radisson near Austin Straubel International Airport
