MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Less than two weeks before the Primary, US Senate Candidate Alex Lasry dropped out of the US Senate race.
The Milwaukee Bucks executive announced on Wednesday, endorsing frontrunner Mandala Barnes.
“Since the first day that I got into this race, I’ve wanted to run a positive campaign and I am proud of the statewide campaign we built. But, it’s become clear in the last few weeks that Wisconsin voters have decided that they want Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes to be our Democratic nominee for US Senate. That’s why today I am ending my campaign and endorsing my friend, Mandela Barnes, to be the next great Senator from the State of Wisconsin,” said Alex Lasry. “I’m calling for all Wisconsin Democrats to come together now behind Mandela and make sure we have a laser focus on beating Ron Johnson and reelecting Governor Tony Evers this November.
He made the announcement during a press event in the Deer District near Fiserv Forum. Lasry has been consistently running in second place in the race despite spending more than $10 million on streaming and TV ads.
He is the second candidate to drop out of the race in the days leading up to the August 9th Primary. Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson suspended his campaign on Monday.
Barnes, the current Lieutenant Governor, and State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski remain in the primary field. The winner faces Ron Johnson in November.
