APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Appleton has been selected to host this year’s World Axe Throwing Championships and World Knife Throwing Championships.
The World Axe Throwing League (WATL) and the World Knife Throwing League (WKTL) championships will take place from Thursday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center.
More than 1,000 competitors and spectators from around the world are expected to be in Appleton for the event.
Competitors will throw for three days in hopes of claiming a world title in one of the following disciplines: duals, hatchet, knife, and big axe.
“This will be our biggest event to date, and the skill level that our top-level throwers display is unbelievable, you really have to see it in person to experience it.”, said Mike Morton, Commissioner of the World Axe Throwing League. “In addition to our axe throwers, the knife throwing championships with our partners, the World Knife Throwing League, is incredibly fun and exciting, and we invite all of Appleton and the Fox Cities to come and meet the community and enjoy the atmosphere that these events generate.”
The entire WATC and WKTC will be live-streamed and Sunday’s finals will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks. Exact broadcast times will be announced in the days leading up to the event.
The events will be open to the public and spectators are encouraged to attend the competition and cheer on their favorite athletes.
