GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Groups on both sides reacting to the US Supreme Court decision in Dobbs vs Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturning 1973’s Roe v. Wade, making abortion a state issue.
Verum Vitae 365, a local anti-Abortion group, is celebrating the decision saying abortion is violence.
“Abortion is the only surgical operation that is successful when a patient dies,” said Jim Ball, President. “My immediate thoughts are a deep sadness that it took 50 years to correct this egregious error.”
Governor Tony Evers, Attorney General Josh Kaul, and the Wisconsin Medical Society have all condemned the decision in the Dobbs case. Dr. Wendy Molaska is the President of the Wisconsin Medical Society and says it’s troubling.
“The sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship is kind of a bedrock,” Dr. Molaska told WTAQ. “This ruling reverts to a law created in 1849 and this creates confusion.”
Green Bay Assemblywoman Kristina Shelton, a Democrat, reacted Friday.
“The Supreme Court has gone against the overwhelming majority of Americans who want to see safe access to reproductive care and abortion care,” Shelton said Friday. “This decision is going to take away freedom…it’s absolutely devastating.”
Most abortions are, by the letter of a law passed in 1849, illegal in Wisconsin as of Friday, when that law reactivated after being unenforceable for years as a result of Roe v Wade.
