The Milwaukee Brewers endured one of the worst homestands in recent memory, suffering a sixth consecutive defeat Thursday afternoon as the Philadelphia Phillies completed the sweep at American Family Field with an 8-3 victory. The Brewers had a huge, 9th inning rally to beat San Diego to start the homestand but dropped every game since, getting shut out three times, matching their longest losing streak in 6 years.
Willy Adames hit a first inning home run and Hunter Renfro also went deep but starting pitcher Corbin Burnes couldn’t go deep enough. A high pitch count had him leave after 4 and a third innings, giving up just a run on three hits with 8 strikeouts. Philadelphia then started striking balls hard. Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Odubel Hererra all hit homers the Phillies made in 7 straight wins, 6 in a row since firing Manager Joe Giardi.
Milwaukee (33-26) embarks on another three city, 9 game road trip beginning with a weekend series in Washington against the Nationals. Aaron Ashby will take the mound in the series opener against Erick Fedd Friday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:30 PM with a 6:05 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
