MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An armed man was arrested after breaking into a Manitowoc home early Tuesday morning while the homeowners and their children were inside.
Shortly after 2 a.m., dispatch received a report from a person who said a man was outside their home in the 2000 block of Johnston Drive, trying to break in.
The man was known to the caller and the caller was able to describe the man for police.
As officers arrived in the area, they heard multiple shots being fired outside the home. The suspect had broke into the home of the caller as officers continued toward the scene.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, Two Rivers Police Department, Manitowoc County SWAT Team, and City of Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department were called to help.
The caller was able to remain on the phone with dispatch until members of the Manitowoc County SWAT Team was able to assist with getting the caller and their children out of the home.
Residents from neighboring homes were also temporarily displaced before the suspect was taken into custody a few hours later.
No one was hurt in the incident and neighbors were able to safely return to their homes later Tuesday morning.
The suspect, a 32-year-old Manitowoc man was arrested on charges of Recklessly Endangering Safety and Domestic Violence.
