GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul discussed a new sexual assault tracking system for survivors in Green Bay Wednesday.
It’s called Track-Kit.
The technology assigns a barcode to every sexual assault kit taken as evidence.
Survivors can track where the kit is as it is tested for DNA at labs and is kept as evidence by law enforcement officials.
It empowers survivors to get the information they need to know at a time that’s convenient for them. Before this, they weren’t able to have this freedom.
“Ultimately what we need to do is to make sure we are continuing to empower survivors of sexual assault with a victim-centered approach and that includes adding a future backlog of untested sexual assault kits. When we do that, we can get justice for survivors of sexual assault,” Kaul said.
All of the information collected will be anonymous and no personal information will be given out.
