GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A ribbon was cut this morning on a $309,000 pedestrian bridge over Green Bay’s Baird Creek.
The bridge allows people to cross between the Baird Creek Trail and the south parking lot with ease. The idea for the project dates back to 2017.
“The initial concept was that we should just put a bunch of telephone poles over the creek and make a bridge, but after discussion, we thought we could do a better job than that,” said Green Bay Parks Director Dan Ditscheit.

The project was the brainchild of the Baird Creek Preservation Foundation and a group of local mountain bikers.
“The Baird Creek Greenway here is one of the best assets we have as a city and as a parks department,” said Mayor Eric Genrich during the ribbon cutting.
The Baird Creek Preservation Foundation donated $30,000 to the effort, the rest of the funds were allocated by the Green Bay Common Council.
