KIEL, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A school board meeting has been postponed and moved online amid threats over an investigation into the use of gender pronouns at Kiel Middle School.
The school district began a Title IX investigation into three students earlier this month. The students are accused of sexual harassment for using non-preferred pronouns when referring to another student.
In a statement Monday, Kiel Police Chief Dave Funkhouser said, “over the last week, our Police Department has responded to several communications received by the Kiel Area School District staff – many have been extremely vulgar, hateful, and disturbing. We are working with district staff to investigate threatening communications and provided additional patrols around schools.”
Funkhouser also recommended the board either postpone Monday night’s scheduled meeting or move it online. The district plans to hold the meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday. It will be virtual only.
Police say they have not received a credible threat to the safety of students.
