GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A garden for veterans in Green Bay is getting an upgrade, thanks to some area high school students.
The Veterans’ Community Garden on Emmet Street added some raised garden beds Thursday.
The beds were built by Bay Port High School students in an agriculture construction class.
Green Bay Vet Center director, Scott Katzka, says each year, the vet garden expands a little bit but this addition is the biggest expansions it’s had in a while.
He says these raised garden beds gives veterans with mobility issues the chance to garden like everyone else.
“Getting people out into the garden helps them create something and grow something and they actually get something out of it, so a product comes out that they made themselves with nature. The feeling they get out of it is an accomplishment that they may not normally have.”
The Veterans’ Community Garden is part of the Brown County Community Garden program.
