OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A registered sex offender has been charged with communicating with what he thought was a parent of a 13-year-old girl to try to set up a sexual encounter.
Federal prosecutors say Kevin J. Mueller, 60, was arrested Monday as part of Operation Kick Boxer, an online sex sting involving local and federal authorities.
According to authorities, earlier this month, Mueller began exchanging text messages with an person whom he believed had a 13-year-old daughter. The “parent” was actually an undercover officer. Mueller allegedly said he wanted to engage in sexual activity with the girl, and even sent pornographic images of himself which he wanted shared with the girl.
Mueller was arrested when he showed up at a prearranged meeting spot in Winnebago County.
Mueller is charged with using a computer to attempt to persuade, induce, or entice a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity, and doing so as a lifetime sex offender registrant. If convicted, he could be sentenced to 10 years to life in prison, plus another 10 years because of his status as a registered sex offender.
Mueller is required to register as a sex offender based on a conviction for first-degree sexual assault in Milwaukee County in 1989.
