APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – The Fox Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau is cutting the ribbon on their new office and Visitor Center on Tuesday afternoon.
The new facility on South Nicolet Road aims to provide modern, state of the art experiences for people coming to visit the Fox Cities.
“We’re always here to serve the visitors. So people who are coming to town for a couple days, maybe they have kids, maybe they’re really into food and they want some good restaurants, whatever it may be, we can offer a lot of information on things to do in the area,” said Marketing Communications Manager Maddie Uhlenbrauck.
Visitor spend impact in the Fox Cities was about $333 million in 2020, which of course, was down from a typical year.
“A lot of those dollars end up back in the community. For example, we’ve got people coming to eat at our restaurants, so those are obviously dollars back into those places. Beyond that, some people are saying that our local hotels. A lot of that money via the room tax also flows back,” Uhlenbrauck told WTAQ News.
Uhlenbrauck hopes the new Visitor Center will coincide with a continuing resurgence across the entire tourism industry in the wake of the pandemic.
“We really are seeing a lot of people are getting back out there, ready to start traveling again – or they are already traveling. We’re expecting to see this great boom, so there is really no better time for us to be able to open up this visitor center,” Uhlenbrauck said. “It also shows that we’re really optimistic about the future of travel. We don’t expect it to slow down, so by being able to show that tourism is here to stay, we’re here to stay with this brand new office – we’re just really excited to be able to offer that to our visitors and then also to our staff.”
You also don’t have to be a visitor to the area to take advantage of what the new facility has to offer.
“We’re called the visitor center, but we’re always open to local residents as well. So don’t be scared, if you live here you are more than welcome and we’re happy to help you look for things to do in your own backyard,” Uhlenbrauck said.
