BELLEVUE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Brown County Sheriff’s Office partnered with Wisconsin Missing Persons Advocacy for an event on Saturday at the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Todd Delain, Attorney General Josh Kaul, and several search-and-rescue teams spoke.
Parents of some of those missing also had a chance to tell their stories.
Marsha Loritz, the group’s founder, is the daughter of Victoria Prokopovitz, a Pittsfield woman who authorities believe was murdered but her body has never been found.
“When I found myself in this situation, I had no idea how many people were missing in the State of Wisconsin. And at that time, that number was much smaller than it is now. And I think awareness is getting people to talk about it, getting the information out there, realizing the public is a huge key in bringing answers to families.”
This is part of Missing Persons Awareness Month in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Missing Persons Advocacy estimates about 225 people are missing statewide.
